Höweler + Yoon
Brand, marketing, print,
editorial, social, communications
Höweler + Yoon Architecture is a design-driven architecture and urbanism practice whose work is deeply informed by social and cultural context. At HYA, I worked on the design for everything communications-related, including proposals, project portfolios, booklets, and social media content.
Amongst the chaos of an architecture practice in the midst of transitioning from boutique and family-run to mid-size and fully capable, the brand was an important but often forgetten element. Our communications and marketing materials were disorganized and outdated.
Using elements from our website and recent book (Verify in Field, designed by Common Name), I created a functional visual language for use before a full brand review could be done. I kept the typeface used on the website and translated the website’s Swedish-style, dynamic, and modular feel to a language that could be consistent throughout our proposals, marketing materials, socials, and internal communications. The grid-heavy design also reflects the logo icon. The simplicity of this system allows the images of the architects’ work to shine.
→ Business cards
→ Saddle-stitch booklets showcasing each project. These were made to be packaged together with small, project-specific “gem books” that we already had.
→ Letterhead and invoices
→ Leporello booklet
→ Print tests
→ Portfolio specimen
→ Event promotion graphic for social media
